Mentoring in youth centers
For the past two weeks, we’ve given to a local community “Côte-De-Neiges” through a program called “Démasques Ton Quartier”. The goal of the project is to give kids and teenagers new ways to express themselves, get them to be more curious about their environment and ask questions, and as a result promote communication and build a stronger society.
Workshops offered ranged from photography, graffiti, videography, poetry, music, radio and more. I gave the photography photography, and taught a bunch of kids how to take good pictures. They were eager to take a camera and rush take pictures, and we tried to slow them down, and think about what they were doing. It was great also to work with indie and renowned artists such as Omen 514 (graf), Parker Mah (radio, photo, music), Michèle BerekYAh (spoken word, slam), Mahdi (sound, music, beat-making), Lou Piensa (hip-hop), Vox Sambou, Stefan Verna (video) and many others.
Check out the slideshow for snapshots. You can also listen to one of the track created by the kids during one weekend. Preview of the graffiti work can also be viewed.
